NLL National Lacrosse League

Mike Emrick, Brian Shanahan and Mark Morgan to announce the NLL All-Star Game on NBC

February 23, 2005 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

The National Lacrosse League announces its team for the television broadcast of the 2005 All-Star Game, which airs live on NBC on Saturday, February 26th at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific. Veteran National Hockey League announcer Mike "Doc" Emrick will handle the play-by-play, while Brian Shanahan will serve as the color analyst. Mark Morgan will be the sideline reporter.

In a hockey announcing career that spans 32 years, Emrick has announced National Hockey League games for ABC, Fox and ESPN. Emrick has fourteen seasons of experience as the NHL New Jersey Devils television play-by-play announcer and previously served in the same capacity for the Philadelphia Flyers for eight seasons. Known as "Doc" to many of his viewers, Emrick also serves as the Vice President of the NHL Broadcaster's Association and is on the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

"Announcing a professional lacrosse game has been an exciting prospect to me ever since I saw the Philadelphia Wings back in 1988 at the old Spectrum during my time with the Flyers," said Emrick. "It looked like a thrilling game to be involved in, and I'm sure anticipating the All-Star Game this weekend, where we'll showcase the best of the sport."

Emrick will be joined in the broadcast booth by veteran NLL color analyst Brian Shanahan. Shanahan has seven seasons of experience as a color analyst of NLL games on The Score, Rogers Sportsnet and Fox Sports Net. The former NLL player has announced the past six Champion's Cup Finals and the 2004 All-Star Game. "I'm really looking forward to working with Mike Emrick, Mark Morgan and the entire broadcast team," said Shanahan. "I've been watching Mike announce hockey games since my brother's (Brendan) rookie NHL season, and I've always admired his work."

Mark Morgan will serve as the sideline reporter. With more than twenty years of sports broadcasting experience with stints at NBC, ABC, CNN and TNT, Morgan covered a wide range of sporting events including the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup Finals, the NBA All-Star Game, the Final Four, various Heavyweight title fights, the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the US Open Tennis. Morgan's efforts in covering the Atlanta Park Bombing during the 1996 Summer Olympics earned him his Emmy. Morgan recently covered the 2004 Summer Olympics for NBC Sports.

"We're really excited about the All-Star team of announcers that NBC has chosen for the game", said NLL Commissioner Jim Jennings. "The national audience on NBC is going to get a first-class game with a first-class broadcast team calling the action on Saturday."

The National Lacrosse League All-Star Game airs live on NBC at 2pm Eastern on Saturday, February 26th. The game marks the first live broadcast of lacrosse on national network television in North America.
