Nebraska Danger News Release
GRAND ISLAND, NE - It took nine games into the season to solidify the kicker position on the team, but it appears the Nebraska Danger may have found their man. In his first game with the team, Diego Marquez was a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points, and he made his only field goal attempt of the game, which happened to be a 51-yard field goal.
The 51-yarder put the Danger up 10-0 early in a game where they routed the Cedar Rapids River Kings 66-41, and it wasn't even really that close. As has been the case all season, the Danger offense found little trouble moving the ball. Tommy Armstrong continued his blistering play with three TD's through the air and running back Davonte Sapp-Lynch added three more to the ground.
What made the offensive explosion even more viable was the reliable kicking game, which is something the Danger just haven't had this season. Marquez is the fifth kicker to kick for Nebraska this season and by far has been the most successful, making 100% of his field goals and PAT's - where he went 9-for-9. In fact, the other four kickers combined to make just 26.75% of their field goals and just 68.5% of their PAT's. To say Marquez was a welcome sight this past weekend would likely be an understatement.
The Danger will need every kick Marquez can give them this next week as they head west to take on the best team in the IFL, the Arizona Rattlers. The Rattlers enter the game a perfect 8-0 on the year, and they're also fresh off an impressive 63-50 win over traditional IFL power Sioux Falls.
Kickoff between the Danger and Rattlers is set for 7 p.m. CST Saturday night in Phoenix at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
