Dickson Dinger Helps Send Dodgers to 4-3 Win

April 21, 2017 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) - Oklahoma City Dodgers News Release

Oklahoma City - A solo home run by O'Koyea Dickson in the bottom of the fifth inning flew over the LED board in left field to break a tie and ended up as the winning run in Oklahoma City's 4-3 win Thursday night against the Nashville Sounds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The home run was Dickson's fourth of the season as the Dodgers snapped a three-game losing skid.

Oklahoma City's pitching staff then held the Sounds off the scoreboard over the game's final four innings to secure the win and push the Dodgers' record above .500.

The Sounds (5-9) grabbed the game's first lead for the fourth straight time against Oklahoma City. They hit four consecutive singles in the third inning to build an early 2-0 lead.

Joey Wendle singled on a liner to left field. Dickson was unable to field the ball cleanly and a run scored on the play for a 1-0 Sounds lead. Mark Canha followed with a RBI single for a 2-0 Nashville advantage.

The Dodgers (8-7) answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take their first lead of the game.

Charlie Culberson led off with a single and scored on a RBI triple by Darnell Sweeney on a fly ball into the right field corner. A wild pitch by Nashville's Corey Walter allowed Sweeney to score from third base and tie the game, 2-2.

A two-out RBI single up the middle from Willie Calhoun put the Dodgers ahead, 3-2.

The Sounds tied the game in the top of the fifth inning on a RBI triple by Franklin Barreto to make the score, 3-3. Barreto finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate.

Dickson drilled a one-out solo homer over the LED board in left field to put Oklahoma City on top, 4-3, in the bottom of the fifth inning. Through 12 games this season, Dickson is batting a team-leading .373 (19-for-51) with 11 RBI and nine runs scored.

Pitcher Joe Gunkel made his first start for Oklahoma City, allowing two runs and six hits over 4.0 innings. Madison Younginer replaced him on the mound to start the fifth inning. He was credited with the win, allowing one run and two hits over 2.2 innings with six strikeouts and one walk. Patrick Schuster followed with a scoreless inning and Brandon Morrow was credited with his third save of the season, holding Nashville scoreless and without a hit over the final 1.1 innings.

Pitcher Michael Brady (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Sounds.
