Indianapolis Indians News Release
NDIANAPOLIS -- Catcher Einar Diaz blooped an RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to help Indianapolis post a 4-3 win over Pawtucket in front of 7,263 Tuesday evening at Victory Field.
It was the Tribe's third walk-off win of 2007 and second in as many days. Indianapolis defeated Pawtucket by the same score on a bases-loaded walk in game one of the four-game series the previous night.
The Indians improve to a Triple-A best 42-28 overall and 23-13 at home, while the Red Sox fall to 31-37 on the season at 15-16 on the road. Wednesday will be the Tribe's 65th consecutive day atop the International League's West Division.
Diaz's only base knock of the evening plated Brad Eldred after the 6-foot-5, 275-pound first baseman reached on a throwing error by the Pawtucket shortstop and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Eldred was the only player on either side to score twice in the game. The 26-year-old's other run came in the third on his sixth Triple-A dinger of the campaign -- a 410-foot blast to dead center.
The Tribe's other two runs came in the third and fourth innings. RF Yurendell de Caster smashed an RBI double to plate SS Luis Ordaz in the third, while DH Brian Bixler lined an RBI single to bring LF Michael Ryan home in the fourth.
RF David Murphy and 2B Bobby Scales combined to go 7-for-10 for the Red Sox. Murphy, who finished 4-for-6, tagged an RBI double in the first. Scales, who went 3-for-4, roped a single in the fourth and came around to score on C George Kottaras' double. Kottaras registered a pair of two-baggers on the night.
Indianapolis RHP Franquelis Osoria (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 BB) earned the win, improving to 2-1. Pawtucket LHP Craig Breslow (2.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 1-1.
Neither starter -- Indians RHP Marty McLeary (5.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) or Red Sox RHP David Pauley (4.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) -- figured in the decision.
The two clubs return to Victory Field on Wednesday at 2 p.m., for game three of the four-game set. LHP Jon Lester is slated to start for Pawtucket, while LHP Michael Tejera is expected to get the nod for Indianapolis.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 1:40 p.m.
