Diamond Dawgs Give up 10 Runs for Second Night in a Row

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs gave up 10 runs at Amsterdam on Wednesday in a 10-4 loss to the Mohawks.
As Yogi Berra would say, it was déjà vu all over again, as the Diamond Dawgs would give up 10 runs again, but could only muster three runs in a 10-3 loss to the Elmira Pioneers.
The Pioneers got on the board first four batters into the game on a line drive single from Troy Squires (Elizabethtown, Kentucky/University of Kentucky), which scored leadoff hitter Will LaRue (Evansville, Indiana/Xavier University), who was the only other base runner in the inning.
Mohawk Valley pitcher Ben Moxley (Oneonta, NY/SUNY Cortland) would allow baserunners into scoring position in the first two innings, even getting into a first-and-second jam in the second, but his infielders would bail him out both times.
Elmira starter Jared Proctor (Bardstown, Kentucky/University of Kentucky) would get into a bases loaded jam in the second inning with only one out. Diamond Dawg Anthony Herrera (McKinney, Texas/University of Louisiana-Monroe) would make him pay for it with a long sacrifice fly to center field, which would score Matt Pagano (Cranston, Rhode Island/Marist College) and tie the score.
The problems for Moxley would continue into the third, however, as he allowed leadoff hitter Tommy Mirabelli (Rocky River, Ohio/University of Kansas) to hit a long fly ball into right for a stand-up triple. Christian Santisteban (Miami, Florida/Manhattan College) would make him pay for that with a home run to center to extend the Pioneers' (1-1) lead to two. Moxley would not go any further after that, as he would be replaced in the next inning by Kevin Berge (Vernon, New Jersey/St. John Fisher College).
Santisteban would continue his reign of terror over Mohawk Valley pitchers in the fourth as a ground ball to left field would score LaRue and Keegan Maronpot (Tarpon Springs, Florida/Wake Forest).
Berge would get into his own jam in the sixth, as he would get a runner to third before recording his first out. He would walk Mirabelli to make the situation even worse, before Santisteban and Squires would make him pay with back-to-back RBI singles before being pulled for Blair Lakso (Hamburg, NY/University at Buffalo). Lakso could not stop the bleeding, however, as he hit Nick Graham (Chambersburg, Pennsylvania/Penn State) with the bases loaded to extend the lead to 8-1.
Santisteban would continue his career day in the seventh when he would smack a line drive triple to right field, which would score LaRue and give the Manhattan Jasper his sixth RBI of the day.
Reliever Mike Korchak (Binghamton, NY/Bucknell University) would load the bases full of Diamond Dawgs before even recording an out in the seventh. Sam Machonis (Tampa, Florida/Florida Southern) would make him pay with a line drive off the shortstop that would score the debuting Nick Rybarczyk (Addison, Illinois/Marist College). A sacrifice fly from JD Osborne (Whitby, Ontario, Canada/Polk State College) to right would score Herrera to close the gap to six. That was all that Mohawk Valley could muster, however, as Korchak would get the next two batters to end the inning.
Reliever Erik Bauer (Putnam Valley, New York/Marist College)would get himself into a first-and-second jam to begin the eighth, hitting Dalton Hoiles (Spring Grove, Pennsylvania/Shippensburg University)and walking Graham. Maronpot would sacrifice a run in the eighth, scoring Hoiles to extend the lead to 10-3. That was all the Pioneers would need, as closer Mike Stephens (Frisco, Texas/Bucknell University) would only allow a Colin Hawk double in the ninth to close out the Diamond Dawgs (1-2).
Proctor would receive the win for the Pioneers, who would raise their record to 1-1. Moxley would get the loss for Mohawk Valley, who are now on a two-game winning streak and drop to 1-2.
The Diamond Dawgs hope to end the losing streak tomorrow night as they head to Western New York to face the Newark Pilots. Elmira goes back to Dunn Field to face off against the Adirondack Trail Blazers.
