Dhane Smith Auctioning Game-Used Stick, Gloves to Benefit Victims of East Side Attack

May 17, 2022 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Buffalo Bandits News Release

Dhane Smith is auctioning off a game-used stick and game-worn gloves with all proceeds benefitting families of the victims of the racist mass shooting on Buffalo's East Side.

Smith said he will also donate $50 for every goal scored by the Bandits during their playoff game against the Toronto Rock this Saturday.

The auction is live at https://web.dashapp.io/team/buffalobandits/event/628404b626ee5e6173cc1ce5.

"Buffalo is home," Smith wrote Tuesday on his Twitter account. "I wouldn't be where I am today without this community always supporting me. It's my turn to give back. For every goal scored by the Bandits this Saturday, I will be donating $50 to support the victims' families from the unthinkable racist attack on the East Side."

The Bandits opened their best-of-three playoff series against the Rock last Sunday, one day after a white supremacist killed 10 people and injured three others at the Tops grocery market on Jefferson Ave. Smith shared his own experiences with racism during a pregame speech in the dressing room.

Smith's address included what he considers the "why" behind his lacrosse career.

"I play lacrosse because I love it, but also because I want to show kids of color that they can be the top of their level," he said.
