HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - Mississippi RiverKings forward Devin Mantha etched his name in the SPHL record book Saturday night by scoring five goals and seven points (5g, 2a) in a 9-2 win over the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs.
Mantha became the fifth player in SPHL history to record five goals in a single game, joining Steve Roberts, Rob Sich, Chris Wilson and Matt Gingera, who most recently accomplished the feat for Colum- bus against the Mississippi Surge on February 28, 2014. Mantha scored twice in the first period and three times in the third period, including two shorthanded goals, which also tied an SPHL record.
With two assists to go along with his five goals, Mantha joined SPHL all-time leading scorer Kevin Swider as the only players to record seven points in a game. Swider initially set the record with a seven-assist night against Huntsville on March 26, 2010.
Mantha also ties for the RiverKings all-time single game highs in points and goals, tying Derek Grant for the single game high in points and Bobby Cunningham for goals. Grant's seven point game was back on January 7, 1997 and Cunningham's five goal game was December 17, 1996 marking over 20 years since a RiverKings player has reached either of those totals.
