Albany Devils News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Albany Devils came within 93 seconds of securing a point in a franchise-record 10-straight games. Instead the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Dallas Jackson scored the game-winning goal at 18:27 of the third period, lifting his team to a 4-3 victory Sunday at Webster Bank Arena.
The Devils, who entered the game with a 7-0-2-0 record in their last nine affairs, were trying to one-better the 2006-07 team, which also earned points in nine-consecutive outings (Mar. 3-23; 5-0-0-4).
Albany appeared to force overtime when Mike Hoeffel netted a power-play goal at 10:14 of the third period. However, in the closing minutes, goaltender Scott Wedgewood was dislodged from his crease, leaving a gapping net for Jackson's point shot. The goal secured Bridgeport's first win against Albany in five tries this season. Previously, The Devils had won each meeting, outscoring the Sound Tigers, 22-9.
Harri Pesonen and Scott Timmins also accounted for Albany's goals. Pesonen opened the scoring from Hoeffel at 12:16 of the first period. After Bridgeport tied the game with a power-play tally at 8:07 of the third, Timmins scores shorthanded, setup by Chris McKelvie, at 11:53 of the middle frame.
Bridgeport's Alan Quine tied the game at 16:55 of the same period and Mike Halmo gave the home squad a 3-2 advantage at 1:50 of the third period. Both goals came on a man advantage.
Wedgewood had his three-game winning streak halted. He made 22 saves on 26 shots. At the other end, Kenny Reiter made 12 stops on 15 tries.
The Devils (17-8-2-1) will take a brief Holiday break before returning to action Friday at 7 pm against the Adirondack Phantoms at Times Union Center.
