
Devil Rays take 15-14 slugfest over Cardinals

The Princeton Devil Rays won a wild series opener tonight against the Johnson City Cardinals in a game that took four minutes shy of four hours and saw 29 runners cross the plate. The Rays started the scoring in the second when they plated six on three hits including doubles by Reid Brignac and Jake Ritchie. The Cardinals duplicated the feat in the top of the next inning scoring six of their own. Princeton retook the lead in the bottom of the inning as four more runners came in. Johnson City brought it back within two in the top of the fourth. Tommy Lagreid hit a two-run homerun for the Rays following a Ryan Royster triple to make it 12-8 after four. The Devil Rays got another in the fifth, but Johnson City scored one in the sixth and three in the seventh to stay in the ballgame. The Rays added another in the eighth to bring the score to 14-12. The Cardinals would not say die and rallied for two in the ninth to tie the game. Reid Brignac capped off the long game with a two out RBI single that scored Jaria Delarosa.
