Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release
The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays are donating $2,406 to the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts still going on in the Gulf Coast.
Devil Rays GM Martie Cordaro said, "Having players, fans and families affected by this terrible disaster has made it easy for us as an organization to donate more than $2,400 to the Red Cross."
The Devil Rays had several players on the team from the region. One of the players, infielder Brandon Rousseve, lost his entire home in the natural disaster. To this end, the Devil Rays players raised $500 which was presented by team manager Joe Szekely following the 2005 season. The Devil Rays raised money from the general fan base during the team's final home games ending September 7 in two Battle Creek Yankees Jersey and Jacket auctions.
Hazar-Bestos Contracting and their president Mike Beck was another generous donor to this cause. HBC donated $500.
