Detroit Shock News Release

DETROIT SHOCK HEAD COACH BILL LAIMBEER: (On the game): "This was a big game for us. They're a potential Finals opponent and we haven't played them yet. Not only was it a home game but we're also one game behind the best record, so a lot of factors went into this game. We wanted this game badly."

(On the offense): "You saw it coming against Chicago a little bit, you saw it against L.A. somewhat. We're moving the ball better, we're not holding the ball, we're not standing, we're converting, which helps, we're making some shots from the guards, Katie Smith's making some shots. When you make shots and you move the ball, good things happen."

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD KATIE SMITH: (On offensive efficiency): "Just an understanding of what we're going to see in Sacramento, obviously they guard differently than anyone else in the league. Watching film and talking through some stuff earlier and looking for things that are a little different than what you see against other teams. We took care of the basketball and found the open person."

DETROIT SHOCK GUARD DEANNA NOLAN: (On beating Sacramento after losing to twice to them last season): "Do you have to remind me? It was a good win for us tonight, just because of who they are, being the defending champions and knowing that they're going to come in and play hard and deny [shots] all over the floor and we took advantage of that tonight, they kept going high and we kept throwing it up."

(On Cheryl Ford): "That was real big, that was one of the keys starting off, I think. They were still denying high and we were throwing right over them, it helped us."

SACRAMENTO MONARCHS HEAD COACH JOHN WHISENANT: (On the game) "I don't know what to say except we just got whipped. I've not coached a game where we've given up 90 points in the WNBA. Our defense broke down in the second half against Indiana last night and we did it again tonight. We've got some problems on the defensive end. What has made us a contender is our ability to guard and we're struggling with it."

(On Cheryl Ford) "She was the same Mailman's daughter that she always is. She gets long rebounds and puts them back. Their system is to shoot and ball and have her on the off side to rebound and put it back in and she leads the WNBA in that. We knew it. We talked about it and she did it to us."

(On the Shock) "They just out executed us. They were sharper then we were. They were the better team. They were better prepared and fresher and all the things you can say. That's how you lose it by 20."

SACRAMENTO MONARCHS CENTER YOLANDA GRIFFITH: (On being fatigued) "We were in Indiana for three days. I think we could have played a game in Indiana earlier then what we did, yesterday. Everybody has that type of schedule. We've got a starting five and great players coming off the bench. Right now we're just not gelling offensively. Individually, we have to figure out a way to bring something to the table to help this team win. If it's not points, it's defense. If it's not defense, it's rebounding. We're not contributing like we have been when we were on the past seven game winning streak. We just got to regroup and get to Connecticut and get that split on the road."
