Detroit Panthers News Release

Birmingham, MI. The ABA Detroit Panthers announced the signing of 5'10 combo guard Antoine B. Sims, team owner Kevin Carter said. An ABA All-Star selection last season, Sims played with the Buffalo Silverbacks the past two seasons, averaging 23 points and 6 assists. Sims, a native of Buffalo, NY, worked diligently in the Panthers' free-agent camp at Highland Park High School, their home court.

"It is good to get a guard the caliber of Antoine Sims," Carter said. "Clearly, he is the best guard in the league and he's an asset that we needed to get. This is certainly a happy day for the Panthers and Sims is a big piece of our championship puzzle."

The Panthers are the defending White Conference North Division champions.

The Panthers look to Sims as a main ingredient of them taking the next step toward winning the team's first ABA title in the 2007-2008 season. Meanwhile, Panthers head coach Clarence "Bill" Jones also sees Sims as a welcome addition to the roster. "Sims adds depth to our backcourt and has all of the necessary skills and tools: leadership, defense and offensive ability," Jones added.

The Panthers will begin training camp this fall with the times and dates to be announced soon. For more information, visit www.detroitpanthers.com or www.abalive.com.
