Waza Flo News Release

The inaugural MASL season has brought about many changes to the indoor game but one thing has remained constant: The Detroit Waza Flo are a force to be reckoned with.

Detroit started the scoring off the foot of veteran Worteh Sampson, who scored the first two goals of the new season. Shortly after, the team's captain, Miki Djerisillo found the back of the net and then head coach Costea Decu netted home a penalty shot attempt to crack the game wide open. Just before half time struck, Danny Dragoi joined the goal scoring party by capitalizing on a Harrisburg miscue and punishing the defense.

After the intermission, Harrisburg came out with a vengeance. Kenneth Fultz scored about a minute into the second half only to be matched by Waza striker, Victor Otieno just 10 seconds later. The next three tallies were from Heat Players Tom Mellor, Kenneth Fultz, and Dave Cash to cut the lead down to just two at 6-4. Things seemed to be taking a turn at this point as the Heat were on a roll and headed to a four-on-three power play. The star of the night, Worteh Sampson, eased the nervous crowd by slotting home a pass from Nik Djokic while shorthanded. Decu accounted for the only goal of the 4th quarter to propel the Waza to an 8-4 victory.

Goalkeeper Vito Lonigro had a stellar performance in net turning away 28 of the 32 shots he faced en route to the win. Lonigro now boasts the league's top save percentage at .875 and his goals against average, four, is second in the league.

The Waza Flo host the Rochester Lancers at the Melvindale Civic Arena on November 8th at 7:05 pm. This will be the first time Detroit faces a team from the former MISL and proves to be a stiff match.
