
Detroit holds first place in Weekend Sweep

(Southfield, Mich., March 4, 2007) - The Detroit Ignition (15-9) finished the weekend in sole possession of first-place in the Major Indoor Soccer League standings with a 13-8 win over the Milwaukee Wave (11-13) at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, WI. The game winning goal was registered by Detroit forward Hewerton at the 4:34 mark of the fourth quarter of play. League-leading scorer Jamar Beasley led all scorers with five points registering one three-point goal and one two-point goal in the contest. Next weekend, the Ignition heads to Chicago to take on the Chicago Storm for the fifth time this season on Sunday, March 11. Game time at the Sears Centre in Chicago is slated for 6:00 pm ET.
Ignition rookie target Worteh Sampson started the contest's scoring with a two-point goal, the only score of the opening frame of play, at 8:26 to hand Detroit the early 2-0 advantage.
MISL leading scorer Jamar Beasley continued his impressive season with a two-point goal at 4:36 of the second quarter to extend the Detroit lead to 4-0.Giuliano Oliviero registered the first goal of the game for the Wave, a two-pointer, at 13:36 to bring the Ignition lead down to 4-2 at halftime.
Detroit forward Mike Apple extended the Ignition lead back to four points at 4:53 with a two-pointer, putting the first-year club in front 6-2. Chad Dombrowski kept the Wave close with a two-point goal at 8:27, bringing Detroit's lead to 6-4. Friday night's hero Kyt Selaidopoulos scored his third point of the night with a two-point goal for Detroit as the Ignition furthered its lead to 8-4 at 11:17.
The Second highest scorer in the MISL, Greg Howes, brought Milwaukee back to within two with a two-point goal at 3:59 of the fourth quarter, bringing the Detroit lead to 8-6. The Ignition responded quickly with a two-point goal at 4:34 from Hewerton to put Detroit back in control at 10-6. Anthony Maher brought the Wave close at 13:31 with a two-point goal to bring the Detroit lead back to two points at 10-8. Despite some strong offensive pressure by the Wave late in the contest, Detroit was able to pull away with a three-point sixth attacker goal at 14:53 by Jamar Beasley, handing the Ignition the 13-8 and 4-2 series victory over the Wave during the regular season.

Ignition goalkeeper Sanaldo (12-8) did not start the game but earned the victory in net for the Ignition...Jamar Beasley registered a game-high five points with the game-winner being tallied by Hewerton...Midfielder Kyt Selaidopoulos ended with an impressive offensive weekend adding three more points to his Friday heroics.
