KiXX take Cougars in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, PA, MARCH 4, 2007) - With a playoff spot still a possibility, the Cougars head to Philadelphia to take on the KiXX in the second of a back-to-back east coast road trip.

California went up against the Baltimore Blast last night but was unable to finish off the Blast going down 14-9 to a surging Baltimore team.

Philadelphia took an early lead as the KiXX got on the scoreboard on a shot by David Castellanos with the assist credited to fellow midfielder Edgar Bartolomeu.

The KiXX extended their lead 4-0 on an unassisted shot past Cougars 'keeper Bayard Elfvin with 4:19 remaining in the first quarter.

Cougars defender Evan McNeley closed the scoring gap 15 seconds later on an unassisted 3-point goal making in a 4-3 game.

Philadelphia push their lead to three on a 2-pointer by player/head coach Don D'Ambra with an assist from defender Pat Morris to make it 6-3.

Veteran midfielder Ato Leone reduced the KiXX lead to one on a shot past Philadelphia goalkeeper Peter Pappas for a 6-5 game going in to the second quarter.

Philadelphia defender Genoni Martinez's 2-point goal nine minutes into the second quarter stretched the KiXX lead 8-5.

KiXX's massive forward Shawn Boney deflected a Dino Delekski long range shot to extend Philadelphia's lead 10-5 just 1:49 into the second half. Delevski got his goal 3:15 later on a restart goal with the assist credited to Martinez to make it 12-5.

KiXX midfielder Sandre Naumoski's 2-pointer on an Andy Guastaferro assist widened the scoring gap 14-5 with 8:39 remaining in the second quarter.

The KiXX continued their third quarter scoring streak with a goal from Ptah Myers to go up 16-5 with 6:01 remaining in the quarter. The KiXX scored their sixth unanswered goal on a Don D'Ambra's 2-pointer with 4:38 remaining in the third quarter.

Cougars forward and Co-captain Aaron Susi ended the KiXX scoring drive at with 6:29 remaining in the game to make it an 18-7 game. With the goal, the Cougars pulled Elfvin in favor of Susi as the team's Sixth Attacker.

With 4:06 left in the game, Philadelphia's Morris lifted a long clearing shot from their end of the field into an open net for a 3-point goal to make the score 21-7.

Cougars forward Vicente Figueroa pulled California closer on two consecutive goals, the first coming on an assist from McNeley with 3:51 in the third quarter and the second on an unassisted play with 1:02 to go in the contest to make it a 21-11 game.

Philadelphia ended the game with another open net goal by Myers with five seconds remaining in the game.

The Cougars next game is set for Sunday, March 11 at the Stockton Arena against the Baltimore Blast in a game to be televised on Comcast SportsNet at 5:00 p.m. PST.
