Detroit Hitmen News Release
The Detroit Hitmen have signed three key players for the team's success. These are the first three signings in the short history of the Hitmen. Forwards Ryan Webb and Matt Mosley, along with defenseman Dan Oleksy are the first players to be invited to training camp in October. The Hitmen have also hired an equipment manager.
Ryan Webb, 27, has signed with the Hitmen for the 2009-10 season. Ryan is embarking on his fifth professional season, and second in the AAHL. Ryan played last season for the Detroit Dragons, before finishing the year in the SPHL with the Twin City Cyclones. "I am excited that we were able to bring Ryan into the fold this season," said Wiedenhoeft. "I got a good look at Ryan playing last season when he was with the Dragons. He was leading the league in points before things happened," stated Wiedenhoeft. He finished, "Ryan has played at the 'AA' level and will be a great leader on and off the ice. He is a true professional."
Ryan was excited to be able to play professional hockey near his hometown again this season. "I am can't wait for the season to start," stated Ryan. "I am glad that Matt Wiedenhoeft has decided to start this team. He did a great job in Battle Creek and has shown that he means business here, both on and off the ice," concluded Webb.
Webb played Junior A hockey in the NAHL and USHL before going to Utica College in the NCAA. He went pro in the 2004-05 season, splitting time with the Flint Generals of the UHL and Jacksonville Barracudas. In his three seasons with the Barracudas, he played 141 games (82G, 86A, 168PTS). Ryan is the first veteran signed to the Hitmen with 190 professional games played.
Matt Mosley,24, has signed with the Hitmen for the 2009-10 season. Matt is a hometown kid from nearby Trenton, MI. Matt comes to the Hitmen for his second professional season. Matt was a member of the Evansville Icemen last season, where accumulated 17 points in 18 games (3G & 14A), amassing 71 PIMS.
"I think that with Matt's year of experience, he can help guide some guys through the tough times," said Wiedenhoeft. "I think Matt will be a versatile player, as I know is signed as a forward, but I may transition him to the blue-line," finished Wiedenhoeft. "I am glad that I will get to play near my new child and fiancé this season. I think Detroit will be a championship caliber team, and am excited to come on board for my second season as a professional."
Dan Oleksy, 27, has signed with the Hitmen for the 2009-10 season. Dan resides in nearby Chesterfield, MI. Dan was a teammate of Ryan's last season, playing together with the Detroit Dragons. Before turning pro, Dan played for Oakland University in the ACHA. Dan's first pro debut was with the Port Huron Flags of the UHL for four games during the 2005-06 season. He took a different route in his life before returning to hockey last season. He played 12 games last season with the dragons accumulating 7 points (2G & 5A).
"I played some inline hockey with the Dan a few a years ago, and think he is a great fit for the Hitmen with his game and personality," Wiedenhoeft stated. "Dan is a smart defenseman who can move the puck up the ice. He will be defenseman that we can rely on in all game situations," ended Wiedenhoeft. "I saw what Matt did in Battle Creek last season with his team. They were a highly competitive team, and I know he'll do the same with the Hitmen," Oleksy said excitedly. "I am expecting to have a big season with the Hitmen, and look forward to giving back to the community during the season," completed Dan.
John Marchak has been named the Detroit Hitmen's Equipment Manager. John comes to the Hitmen with an extensive background in hockey. John is a resident of Sterling Heights, MI. He has worked as the Head Equipment manager for the SPHL's Fayetteville Fireantz for two seasons. Before going to the Fireantz, he was the assistant equipment manager for the Motor City Mechanics of the UHL. He has years of experience as a locker room attendant/stick boy for the Detroit Falcons of the COHL and the Detroit Freeze of the NAHL.
"John got a great recommendation from someone I know in the area. I met with him, and he was on the same page as I am, in terms of what it's going to take to have a successful organization. John filled an important position for the success of the team. It's one less thing that guys have to worry about," said Wiedenhoeft. John commented, "I am glad to be able to work with the Hitmen for this season. I feel that this team is going to stick around for years to come, and is going to make an impact in the community." He ended with, "I am excited to get started, and know that this team is going to excel on and off the ice."
The three signings bring the Hitmen's training camp roster three. Defensemen: Dan Oleksy, Center: Ryan Webb, Right Wing: Matt Mosley.
