Detroit City FC News Release
Detroit, Michigan - Detroit City FC dominated Ann Arbor AFC in their first meeting of the season - scoring 2 goals in each half, and providing a dominant defensive performance from start to finish.
The match would start off with a majority of the first ten minutes spent in the midfield. The first action of the match would come in the 11th minute when #10 Kieh of Ann Arbor would go bursting down the right flank driving at DCFC's backline making a quick cut inside onto her left foot before she would be brought down for a free kick outside the 18 yard box.
#6 Nimene would take the just won free kick for Ann Arbor and rocket one off the crossbar that would bounce downwards but not cross the goalline.
#10 Kieh would continue to pose problems for DCFC down the right flank, slipping #13 Whitehead into the 6 yard box who would miscontrol the pass.
In the 25th minute DCFC would be forced to go to the bench, bringing on #5 Emilie Garnder, for captain #29 Elisa Baeron who would be taken off for precautionary reasons due to an injury.
It would be in the 27th minute when DCFC would find their breakthrough after a low cross coming from the left flank, Ann Arbor would only be able to partially clear the ball out, as it would come flying out to #7 Dani Stephan who would bring the ball down with her chest before lasering a half volley into the top right corner to give DCFC the lead.
Just six minutes later DCFC would add a second to the tally. This time it would be #17 Syd Blomquist who would have the ball rolled to her on the top of the 18 yard box, and hit a first time strike that would nestle itself in the bottom corner to make it two-nil to DCFC.
In the 37th minute things would go from bad to worse for the visitors. After having the ball poked away from her by DCFC's #15 Avery Peters, #10 Kieh would lash out, kicking her down. Initially the referee deemed the offense a yellow card, but after a quick talk with the fourth official would elect to send of #10 Kieh instead.
DCFC would see one more chance in the half to increase the lead from a corner in stoppage time. The ball would not be cleared out properly, as it would drop to center back Karolak about 10 yards out from goal, who would turn her marker and fire a shot that would be met with a finger tip save from Ann Arbor's goalie #1 Przybylo.
The first action of the second half would come in the 48th minute, with Syd Blomquist stood over a free kick on the top of the 18th, curling a beauty into the top left corner that the keeper had no chance on to give Syd her second of the night and DCFC their 3rd.
In the 62nd minute DCFC would go to their bench again, bringing on #9 Kayla Addison, and #27 Amanda Britain on for #3 Drew Martin, and goalscorer #7 Dani Stephan.
DCFC's final goal of the match would come in the 72nd minute, Ann Arbor would look to recycle possession by swinging it across the backline, but be met by Detroit's high press forcing a misplaced place that Ellie Pool would chase down before taking a touch and rolling it past Ann Arbor's goalie to make it 4-0.
DCFC's last time utilizing the bench would come in the 76th minute as DCFC would bring on #4 Rylee Clark, #2 Emily Paggett, and #88 Deighton Wamer for Goalscorer #32 Ellie Pool, #10 Brynn Gardner, and #30 Gabby Schriver.
In the 90th minute Ann Arbor would get their only two sights off goal in the match, the first coming from a free kick just outside the 18 yard box that would fire off the crossbar. The second coming from the rebound that would fall to #12 Medina who would roll one off the left post from 8 yards out to make it 4-1.
The final action of the match would be two opportunities for #17 Syd Blomquist to secure her hat-trick. As she would have a free kick from just outside of the 18 yard box just go over the bar, and moments later after some clever feet, and a one-two with Addison on the top of the box find herself one on one with the keeper, but the keeper would produce the save.
