Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(Buffalo, NY) - Buffalo Destroyers Head Coach and General Manager Ray Bentley announced today that K Steve McLaughlin was activated from the refused to report list and OL/DL Jeremy Johnson signed a one-year contact. The Destroyers also announced they have waived WR/DB Keven Jackson.
Jackson, who has been with Buffalo since their first season, appeared in 10 games in 2001 recording 30 tackles and two interceptions. He racked up 29 tackles and three interceptions in 1999. Jackson did not play in 2000.
"We had to waive Keven who has been with us for all three seasons," said Bentley. "It's always a tough thing to do. We have some really talented guys at that position. It was something that had to be done."
McLaughlin, signed as a free agent in the off-season from Nashville, led the Arena Football League in points by a kicker with 152, which also placed him ninth overall in total points. He is ninth overall in career points with 440.
"We are happy to have Steve here," Bentley continued. "He was the best kicker in the AFL last season and we expect him to be the best this season."
Johnson spent last season with the Wichita Stealth of the AF2. He led the team with 11.5 sacks and was fourth in tackles with 24.
"Of all the AF2 rookie linemen we brought in this year, Jeremy was the top dog," Bentley added. "He's got a great chance to help our football team."
The Destroyers waived DS Terrance Joseph today as well.
The Destroyers get their first test of the 2002 season when the head to Detroit Saturday for a pre-season game with the Fury at 7:30 PM. The team gears up for their first home pre-season game at the HSBC as the host ArenaBowl XV champion Grand Rapids Thursday, April 11 at 7:30 PM.
