Columbus, Ohio: The AFL returned to arenas and TVs across the nation for it's 20th season. Week one attendance was up about 9,000 from last year. In 2005, 95,312 fans packed into arenas, but this year's opening week saw 114,044 come to nine AFL arenas. 12,451 showed up to Nationwide Arena to see the Destroyers take on the Rampage.
Columbus got the scoring started, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter, including a four-yard touchdown pass from QB John Kaleo to OS Thabiti Davis. Kaleo found Davis two more times on the day, a 21-yard touchdown in the third, and a three yard score in the fourth. Kaleo lead the QBs, completing 23 of 42 passes, for 256 yards and four touchdowns. Counterpart Jose Davis also threw for 256 yards, along with three scores and two picks. Davis led all receivers, catching 10 passes for 131 yards and three touchdowns. Destroyer's kicker Mark Lewis had a solid day, connecting on all six extra-points, and three of four field goals. Jeremy Unertl and Cecil Doggette led the defense, each grabbing an interception.
