Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY) - Buffalo Destroyers Head Coach and General Manager Ray Bentley announced today he has signed OS Derek Baker, QB Dan Boland and WR/DB Teddy McDuffie to the practice squad.
Baker, a Buffalo State alum, played well in his two pre-season appearances for the Destroyers, returning a kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown at Detroit and caught a 22 yard touchdown strike from Jeff Loots Thursday vs. Grand Rapids.
"Derek is a heartbeat away from making the 24-man roster," said Bentley. "This will be a great learning experience for him."
McDuffie, a native of Buffalo, came in for a tryout during mini-camp and impressed the coaching staff, while Boland, also a native of Buffalo, helped out as an assistant coach during training camp.
"Teddy showed us enough in his tryout to bring him back so he can learn the game and see what can happen," Bentley said. "Dan will fill our number three quarterback role and he will give us exactly what we need in practice."
The Destroyers also announced they have waived OL/DL Desmon Baker to make room for OL/DL Jeremy Johnson on the 24-man roster.
"Jeremy worked hard in camp and we are ready to give him a shot," Bentley added.
Bentley plans to sign one more player to the practice squad later this week.
The Destroyers are ready for the 2002 season as the New Jersey Gladiators come to the HSBC Arena at 7:30PM this Friday, April 19. Season and group tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444 today.
