Georgia Force QB Zeier to Pursue NFL Opportunities

April 16, 2002 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Georgia Force News Release

Atlanta, Ga. - The Georgia Force and quarterback Eric Zeier jointly announced today an agreement to allow Zeier to pursue unanticipated immediate opportunities to continue his career in the National Football League.

Statement from Team President Jim Thomas:

"Eric Zeier made it clear to us from the outset that one of his primary reasons to play for the Georgia Force this season was to get back to the NFL. We all understood that Eric's opportunity to play in the NFL would come at the end of our season. Eric now has the chance to pursue a continuation of his NFL career earlier than expected, and if he is to pursue that opportunity, he must do it now."

"Although Eric could attempt to pursue his NFL options while staying with the Force, he cares too much about this team to put them in the awkward position of not knowing whether he will be with the team and having a quarterback who is not completely focused on his job here. We greatly appreciate Eric's candor and consideration in allowing us to move forward without the distraction of having a quarterback pulled in two directions."

"Once Eric informed us that he had an immediate opportunity to pursue his NFL career, we never considered standing in the way of his dream. We fully support Eric and wish him great success. If his efforts to play again in the NFL do not work out, we would welcome discussions with Eric about returning to the Force."

"Fortunately, we have two other outstanding quarterbacks who have great experience and have had great success in the Arena Football League. While Eric has great potential and was learning to play in the AFL, Kevin McDougal and Donnie Davis are proven commodities and are currently among the best quarterbacks in our league. The Georgia Force will continue to be a very talented and competitive team and a 'Force to be reckoned with' this year and for years to come."

The Georgia Force open their inaugural season Saturday, April 20, vs. the Orlando Predators at Philips Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Force Season Tickets packages for the remaining seven-game home schedule are still available. The seven-game package will start with the Force's regular season opener vs. Orlando and include the remaining six home games.
