Columbus Destroyers News Release
COLUMBUS, OH â As preparations continue for Saturday's Eastern Division contest with the New York Dragons, the Arena Football League's Columbus Destroyers have signed defensive specialist Bobby Britton from the practice squad and activated offensive specialist Bobby Olive off injured reserve, the team announced today. In addition, the Destroyers have placed wide receiver/defensive back Sedrick Robinson on injured reserve and waived quarterback Scott McMullen.
The team expects to resign McMullen to the practice squad early next week once he clears waivers.
Britton (5-11, 195, Ohio State) originally signed with the Destroyers on October 22, 2004 and has been a practice squad player since joining the team last fall. Britton played defensive back and was a standout on special teams at The Ohio State University from 2000-2003, appearing in 30 games during his four-year career. His best season came in 2001 where he recorded ten tackles in seven games played. Britton finished his career at OSU with 21 total tackles (11 solo) and two blocked kicks.
Olive (6-1, 180, Ohio State) returns to the active roster after spending the past two weeks sidelined with a hamstring injury. On the season, Olive has nine catches for 93 yards in seven games played. He returned to the playing field in 2005 after spending last season as the Destroyers' wide receivers coach. Olive is the club's all-time leader in single season receptions (106); single season receiving yards (1,184) and is second all-time in career receiving yards (2,041) in five seasons with the organization.
Robinson (5-10, 185, Kentucky Wesleyan) suffered a knee injury during last week's loss to the Austin Wranglers. He will be available to return to the lineup for the club's season finale on Sunday, May 22 versus the Tampa Bay Storm. In 12 games, Robinson has 56 catches for 540 yards and nine touchdowns, while also returning 37 kicks for 756 yards and three scores. Defensively, he has contributed 27.5 tackles (23 solo) and one interception.
McMullen (6-3, 215, Ohio State) has appeared in four games this season, making one start, having completed 33-of-64 passes for 332 yards and four touchdowns. McMullen joined the Destroyers after a successful collegiate career at The Ohio State University from 2000-2003. McMullen began his career at OSU as a red-shirted freshman in 1999 before seeing his first action the following season. He would go on to appear in 20 games during his career, completing 87-of-141 passes for 1,103 yards and nine touchdowns.
