Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the second consecutive year, the Columbus Destroyers and the Mid-Ohio FoodBank are teaming up to "Tackle Hunger" in Central Ohio. During the 2005 campaign, more than 4,000 pounds of food items representing 26,841 meals were donated during the season-long collection. This year's drive begins when the 2006 season opens at home as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage on Sunday, January 29 at 3 p.m.

Each month over 18,000 households in Franklin County turn to a local food pantry in order to put food on the table and provide their children with the proper nourishment they need to excel in school. To meet these needs, the FoodBank distributes more than two million pounds of groceries a month, enough food to provide 35,000 meals every day.

Beginning with the home opener and continuing throughout the 2006 season, fans are asked to bring non-perishable food items to each home game at Nationwide Arena to help meet the ongoing needs of the Mid-Ohio FoodBank. In turn, fans will receive one raffle ticket per donated food item for a chance to win a team-autographed item. One winner will be announced during the fourth quarter of each game.

Another way to support the FoodBank is through Bruiser's birthday or special wish program in which fans purchase a $55 package that includes in-seat delivery of a unique Destroyers gift by mascot Bruiser and a matrix board acknowledgement of the special occasion. For $25, a simple birthday, anniversary or congratulatory message can be displayed on the matrix board. All proceeds will be donated to the "Tackle Hunger" program. For more information, call (614) 246-4152.

In addition to the eight-game collection drive, members of the Columbus Destroyers plan to further support the "Tackle Hunger" initiative with visits to the Mid-Ohio FoodBank to help pack boxes for distribution to local food pantries. Players and team personnel will also lend a hand at Faith Mission to serve meals and spend time with residents during several trips scheduled throughout the season.

Single game tickets are now available starting as low as $10 and season tickets are on sale now for as low as $90 and are available by calling (614) 246-HITS or by visiting www.ColumbusDestroyers.com. In addition, high school and college students (23 years and under) with a valid student ID may purchase a specially priced $7 ticket beginning two hours before each home game at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office only.

Individual tickets may also be purchased at the Nationwide Arena Ticket Office, at all Ticketmaster Ticket Centers, or by phone at (614) 431-3600. Tickets are also available at the Blue Jackets Zones located at Chiller Dublin, Chiller Easton and Chiller North. All tickets are subject to service charges and facility fees.

Entering its fourth season, NBC will continue its coverage of the AFL on Sundays throughout the season. Be sure to watch the AFL on NBC. Check local listings for complete details.
