Buffalo Destroyers News Release

(BUFFALO, NY) – The Buffalo Destroyers head to Long Island for a scrimmage against Eastern Division rival the New York Dragons Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at Nassau Coliseum. The scrimmage will be a live game action rehearsal for the NBC Sports crew as they prepare for their first season of coverage of the AFL.

Live scoring and stats will be available on the Destroyers website at www.buffalodestroyers.com/warzone.html. Scoring plays will be updated on the site as they happen and stats will be updated every quarter. The Destroyers website will be the only place to follow the scrimmage live.

With 28 new faces in training camp and just 11 days until the regular season kicks off under first year head coach Ron Selesky, the Destroyers are looking forward to seeing how the team has progressed so far.

"This scrimmage comes at a good time for us," Selesky said. "After being here for two weeks, it will be nice to butt heads with a different team. This is a chance to measure ourselves and give some of the young guys an opportunity to show their skills in game situations.

The contest between Buffalo and New York will be the first of two games played on Wednesday at Nassau Coliseum. At 3:00 p.m. the Orlando Predators and Tampa Bay Storm will meet.

Buffalo has added linemen Dave Sucura (6-3, 300, Michigan St.), Ken Bouie (6-2, 270, Central Missouri St.) and Imani Bell (6-5, 335, Penn St.) to the roster and each will suit up for Wednesday's scrimmage.

Buffalo will make final cut downs over the weekend to get to the 24-man roster for the regular season.

Buffalo kicks off its fifth season in the Arena Football League Saturday, February 1, 2003 as the Destroyers host the Grand Rapids Rampage at the HSBC Arena. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Season tickets are on sale now. Call 881-4444!
