Destroyers add FB/LB Toran James

COLUMBUS, OH – The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League have signed fullback/linebacker Toran James to a free agent contract, the team announced today. In addition, the club has activated kicker Steve Videtich and lineman Norris McCleary off the team's refused to report list.

James (6-3, 250, North Carolina A&T) has played in three previous AFL seasons with two different teams, compiling a total of 14.5 tackles, two pass deflections and one interception. He began his AFL career in 2000 with the Carolina Cobras before spending two seasons with the Detroit Fury (2001-2002). Prior to entering the AFL James spent three seasons in the NFL from 1997-1999. He began his professional career as a seventh round selection by the San Diego Chargers in the 1997 NFL Draft. James saw action in 14 games as rookie with Chargers in 1997, finishing the season with seven tackles defensively and two on special teams. He also spent time with the Seattle Seahawks in 1998 and Green Bay Packers in 1999.

In other personnel moves, the Destroyers have waived defensive specialist Cordell Taylor and offensive/defensive linemen Jeremy Caudill and DeAngelo Lloyd.

The Columbus Destroyers open the 2005 season on Friday, January 28 when the club hosts the expansion Nashville Kats at Nationwide Arena. Kickoff is slated for 7PM. Season tickets are available now starting as low as $99 for eight regular season games plus one home playoff game.
