Philadelphia Soul News Release

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul signed WR/LB Maurice Bryant and FB/LB Albert Gamble today, pushing the team's roster to the training camp maximum of 37 players.

Bryant is a five-year veteran of the AFL, having played for the Arizona Rattlers from 2000-2003 and for the Las Vegas Gladiators last season. At 6-foot-1, 210 pounds, Bryant adds size and experience to the Soul's receiving corps and brings with him an impressive AFL resume. He has caught 211 passes for 2,709 yards and 62 touchdowns in his five years in the League. A graduate of the University of Houston, Bryant's best year was in 2001 with the Rattlers when he snagged 65 balls for 948 yards and 19 touchdowns. His addition further solidifies the Soul's receiver position.

Gamble, a rookie from Morgan State, becomes the youngest player on the Soul roster. The 22-year-old starred as a linebacker for the Bears and was named a First Team All-MEAC Defender in both his junior (2002) and senior (2003) seasons. As a senior he switched from linebacker to defensive end, where he registered 11 sacks (13th in the country) and 54 tackles. That year, Gamble ranked second in the MEAC in sacks (11), third in forced fumbles (4) and fourth in tackles for loss (18).

Today's signings bring the Soul roster to the training camp maximum of 37 players. The Soul are currently in San Jose, CA practicing with the SaberCats. The two teams will share practice on Tuesday and then scrimmage on Wednesday afternoon. The Soul returns to Philadelphia on Thursday and resume practice on Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Media interviews will be available immediately following practice.
