Desperados Colston Weatherington Named AFL's Lineman of the Year
May 23, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release
Dallas Desperados OL/DL Colston Weatherington was named the Arena Football League's Lineman of the Year on Tuesday. Weatherington, in his third AFL season and third season in Dallas, posted a personal best 7.5 sacks on the season to give him 16.5 in his career. After his two-sack performance at Chicago (3/5), Weatherington became the club's all-time sack leader, passing Tom Briggs (12.5). For his effort in the Chicago game, Weatherington was named Defensive Player of the Week by the AFL.
Weatherington becomes just the second player in team history to have won an individual honor following a season. Tom Briggs was the first Dallas player to be honored with a post-season award as the AFL's Lineman of the Year following the 2003 season.
"I am happy, I am real happy," Weatherington said after learning of the honor live on ESPN News. "I am going to go back and thank my teammates for the job they did, but I'm going to tell them that there's one more award we need as a team, a championship ring."
The Desperados play host to the Georgia Force in a Divisional Playoff Game on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the American Airlines center.
