Dallas' Colston Weatherington named AFL Lineman of the Year

NEW YORK - Dallas Desperados OL/DL COLSTON WEATHERINGTON (6-5, 275, Central Missouri State) was selected as the 2006 Lineman of the Year as voted by the AFL head coaches, fans, players and the Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA). The announcement was made live on ESPNews this afternoon.

The third-year veteran, who earned All-Arena First-Team honors last week and was an All-Rookie Team member in 2004, started all 16 games this season and posted 13.5 total tackles. He was third in the AFL with 7.5 sacks and 9.0 total tackles-for-loss in the regular season and added three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, one safety and one blocked field goal in helping Dallas become just the second team in League history to record 13 regular-season wins.

Other candidates included: Chicago's KHREEM SMITH, Colorado's HUGH HUNTER, Georgia's JERMAINE SMITH and Orlando's HENRY TAYLOR.
