Deshawon Nembhard Receives Call-Up to Belize National Team

STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC defender Deshawon Nembhard received a national team call-up to the Belize National Football Team for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League window. Nembhard, 27, reported to the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) headquarters on May 29.

The defender will join Belize for its first four Concacaf Nations League encounters, kicking off on June 2 when Belize takes on the Dominican Republic at home. The Belize Jaguars will then travel to Guatemala to take on the home side on June 5, followed by hosting French Guiana on June 9. Belize will play their final game of the window on the road on June 14 against French Guiana.

"It is an honor to represent my country. I am proud to represent my country Belize in the Concacaf Nations League matches. The experience will help me test my abilities against the best players in Concacaf."

Nembhard made his Belize National Team debut against Haiti during the Concacaf World Cup qualification circuit in 2021. Nembhard went on to record two more appearances for the Jaguars, appearing in a 5-0 win against Turks-Caicos and in a qualifying match against Nicaragua.

The defender played every minute for Tormenta FC in 2022, recording nine appearances in his first season with the club. Three of those nine appearances came in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup where Tormenta FC made a run to the Round of 32 for the first time in club history.

The Concacaf Nations League is an international competition between the 41-member soccer federations of Concacaf. National Teams will compete to qualify for the Concacaf Gold Cup. Divided into three-tiered leagues (A, B, C) of four groups each, Belize is in League B, being placed in group D along with Dominican Republic, Guatemala and French Guiana.
