Desharnais and Carle win TELUS player of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Monday, December 18, 2006 - Chicoutimi Saguenéens forward David Desharnais and Acadie-Bathurst Titan defenseman Mathieu Carle were named the TELUS offensive and defensive players of the week for the period extending from December 11 to 17.

In three games, Desharnais collected five goals, including two game-winners, and four assists while maintaining a +5 (plus/minus) differential. Last Thursday versus the Rocket, he was named the game's first star in a 4-2 win thanks to two key assists. The following night versus the Remparts, Desharnais registered four goals and one assist in an impressive 7-4 win over their archrivals to again earn first star honours. Finally yesterday against the Drakkar, the fiery forward scored the game-winner in the shootout to help the team clinch its seventh consecutive win.

Ryan Graham (7-1-8) of St. John's, Thomas Beaureguard (6-1-7) of Acadie-Bathurst and David Laliberté (5-2-7) of PEI were also considered.

The defensive player of the week award goes to Acadie-Bathurst defenseman Mathieu Carle. In three games, he collected two goals and five helpers while maintaining a +6 (plus/minus) differential. Wednesday, Carle registered two assists on Thomas Beaureguard goals in a 7-3 win over the Mooseheads. Two days later, he earned first star honours thanks to a strong offensive showing (four points) in a 6-3 victory over the Wildcats in Moncton. Finally, on Saturday, the Titan blueliner registered his fiftieth point of the season in a 5-3 win in Saint John. Acadie-Bathurst is in the midst of a four-game winning streak. Carle leads all league defensemen in scoring.

Goaltenders Pier-Olivier Pelletier (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 2.00 GAA; .935 SAV%) of Drummondville and Peter Delmas (2-0-0; 120 MIN; 2.00; .933 SAV%) of Lewiston as well as defenseman Kevin Marshall (0-5-5; +4) of Lewiston were also considered.
