Las Vegas Desert Dogs News Release
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Las Vegas Desert Dogs rallied from an eight-goal deficit, knocking off the Vancouver Warriors for the franchise's first-ever win Friday, 15-14.
The Desert Dogs outscored the Warriors 11-2 in the second half, climbing all the way back into the game in front of a crowd of 5,057 at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Rob Hellyer (2G, 7A) led the team in points (9) for the second straight game, while Jack Hannah (4G, 3A) and Charlie Bertrand (3G, 4A) both turned in seven-point outings to pace the offense.
Down 12-4 to start the second half, the Desert Dogs fought off a two-men down situation to hold off Vancouver and begin chipping away at lead. Charlie Bertrand sparked the run with the first goal of the third quarter, followed by a power-play goal from Jack Hannah and career No. 100 goal from Jacob Ruest.
The Dogs continued to claw back in the fourth as another five consecutive goals, capped by a Reid Reinholdt strike, tied the game at 14 with 8:03 to play.
Vancouver finally stopped the bleeding on an Adam Charalambides goal to go back up by one, but Vegas rode the home crowd for three straight goals including back-to-back by Hellyer to eventually pull out the 15-14 victory.
Landon Kells made 35 saves in relief, earning his first career win in the net.
The Dogs will look to ride tonight's momentum into another road trip north of the boarder next weekend, when the team faces Saskatchewan Rush on January 28. Faceoff at the SaskTel Centre is slated for 5:30 p.m.
