Derrick McIver called up to AHL

Corpus Christi Rayz forward Derrick McIver was called up to the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AAA Level) on Sunday. The third-year Rayz winger made his San Antonio and AHL debut Sunday night as the Rampage hosted the Iowa Stars. After the game, McIver was asked to remain with the Rampage for an undetermined amount of time. The Rampage continue their schedule this week with another hosting of Iowa on Tuesday Night, before playing three straight road games beginning Saturday. The Rayz are off until Friday when they kick off a three-game weekend with a trip to face the Odessa Jackalopes. This season McIver ranks third on the team in goals with 18 and fourth on the team with a career-high 45 points.

McIver, 27, has been as consistent as anyone for Corpus Christi since joining the team as a rookie in 2004-2005. Signed on the day before the season started, McIver scored his a pro debut and has not missed a game in three seasons. He has amassed 66 goals and 66 assists in 177 games in his three seasons with the Rayz. McIver was named as a Rookie of the Year Finalist after notching 25 goals in his first season, and followed that up with another 20+ goal performance last year. This season, he has a career-high 27 assists in 53 games and has helped lead the Rayz to the second best record in the Southern Conference.

McIver becomes the first Rayz player to be called up to the AHL this season. With the call-up, the Rayz have now had at least one player called up to the AHL in three of the last four seasons.
