Oakley CHL Player & Goaltender of the Week Announced
Published on February 26, 2007 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
The Week 19 recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards have been determined following nominations from CHL member clubs. Former CHL regular season and playoff Most valuable Player Jeff Bes of the Laredo Bucks has been named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week, while Lubbock Cotton Kings rookie All-Star netminder JF Perras has earned selection as the Oakley Goaltender of the Week.
Bes led the surging Bucks to three victories this week, increasing Laredo's Southeast Division lead to 11 points. Thursday night he set a franchise record by scoring four times in Laredo's 10-2 home win over Amarillo, becoming the sixth player in the CHL to record four goals in a single contest this season. Two nights later he scored his 22nd goal of the year and added an assist in a key 4-3 divisional win in Corpus Christi, then rounded out his week with a pair of assists in Laredo's 4-3 home victory over Austin, including setting up defenseman Adam Rivet for his fourth game winning of the year. After starting the season on injured reserve, Bes has heated up in recent weeks, and has 12 goals in his last dozen games played.
Perras did his part to keep the Cotton Kings in the hunt for a Southern Conference playoff berth, backstopping Lubbock to a home and home sweep of the Amarillo Gorillas on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening he picked up his third shutout of the season by making 32 saves in a 3-0 home victory, then turned aside another 44 shots Sunday in a 3-2 road win. The Sher-Wood CHL Goaltender of the Month for December lowered his seasons goals against average to 2.91 and elevated his save percentage to .919 with his two quality outings.
