Denver's Faceoff Specialist Max Adler Wins Aryse Faceoff Specialist of the Year
Denver - Denver Outlaws Faceoff Max Adler has been named Major League Lacrosse's (MLL) Aryse Faceoff Specialist of the Year. The Aryse Faceoff Specialist of the Year award is presented to the athlete whose special-position performance was outstanding throughout the season. This is the first year of the MLL has awarded Faceoff Specialist of the Year.
Adler was drafted by Denver in the seventh round (61st overall) of the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft and has played four seasons with the Outlaws. He has played a career 29 regular-season games and 5 post-season games. Adler has started in the last three Championship games for Denver, was named to Team Israel in the 2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championship and played in his first MLL All-Star Game in 2019.
A fourth-year faceoff specialist, Adler has won 479-of-820 faceoffs taken (58.4%) in 29 career regular-season games played. Adler had his career-best season in 2019, winning a league-best 58.3% of faceoffs (256-of-439) as well as boasting five goals, three assists, and 110 ground balls over 15 games played.
Adler led the league in faceoffs won with 64.8% (46-of-71) during the 2020 season, while adding a team-best 22 ground balls and one goal in four games. He also posted two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and six ground balls during the Championship game. Adler's best game of the season saw 22-of-25 faceoff wins and a season-high 13 ground balls in the comeback win against Chesapeake (7/22). He helped boost the Outlaws to the number one team in the league for faceoff win percentage (.597) and the number two team in the league in ground balls per game (39.00).
The 26-year old Florida-native played college lacrosse at Bentley University, where he finished fourth in Division II in faceoff-win percentage (67.9 percent) as a senior and ranked third in ground balls per game (9.54).
In addition to his outstanding performance in 2020, Max has also set the Major League Lacrosse's single-game faceoff record by winning 23-of-24 faceoffs (95.8%) at Chesapeake on Aug. 10, 2019. Max also owns a few spots in the Outlaws' Record Book, including first in team history for single-season faceoff wins (256) and third for single-season faceoff percentage (min. 100 attempts) with .583.
