Denver Outlaws News Release
DENVER - The Denver Outlaws announced their 2012 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) schedule today. Season highlights include the home opener against the Hamilton Nationals and the annual Fireworks Celebration held on July 4 against the MLL expansion team the Ohio Machine. Before the regular season kicks off at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, the Outlaws will play host to high school and NCAA lacrosse events.
The preseason begins on April 21, with the annual Littleton Cup, a high school doubleheader featuring Chatfield, Littleton, Heritage and Columbine at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., as well a game between local club rivals Colorado and Colorado State at 6 p.m.
April 27 brings the Inside Lacrosse Mile High Classic - an NCAA doubleheader featuring four of the nation's top collegiate teams. The first game features the reigning national champion Virginia against Penn at 5:30 p.m., followed by Duke against local powerhouse University of Denver at 8 p.m. Tickets for this event start at just $15. The MLL regular season begins for the Outlaws with an away game against one of the MLL's expansion teams, the Charlotte Hounds on April 28. The Denver home opener is set for May 5, against the Hamilton Nationals at 7 p.m. Payback will be on Denver's mind, as the Nationals ended the Outlaws playoff run with an 11-9 victory in the semifinals last season. The following weekends, Denver hosts the Long Island Lizards on May 12, and the Boston Cannons on May 19. Following a bye week for Memorial Day weekend, the Outlaws will play again at home against the Chesapeake Bayhawks on June 2.
After a long home stretch, the Outlaws will head to Ohio to take on the Machine on June 9, and return home to Denver to face the Rochester Rattlers on June 16. On June 23, the Outlaws will face the Lizards on their home turf, before returning home for one of the most anticipated games of the season.
On Wednesday, July 4, the Denver Outlaws will commemorate the country's independence with a game against the Ohio Machine followed by the team's annual fireworks celebration. This event has become a mainstay of the holiday and consistently entertains fans with the largest close-proximity show in the city. Last season, the Outlaws broke the MLL record for single game attendance during the fireworks game with 27,184 fans in attendance.
The last home game hosted by the Outlaws at Sports Authority Field is on Saturday, July 14 against Charlotte in a nationally televised game on ESPN2. The regular season will wrap up on the road with games against Boston on July 19, Hamilton on July 28, Rochester on August 4 and Chesapeake on August 11.
