
Denver Falls To Chesapeake 15-12 After Outlaws' One-Goal First Half

DENVER -The Denver Outlaws fell to the Chesapeake Bayhawks by a score of 15-12 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, MD this evening. Chesapeake got off to a hot start this with a four-goal first quarter and continued their dominance throughout the first half.
Chesapeake kicked off the game by scoring back-to-back goals in the first five minutes. They scored two more goals, including one by Matt Donovan with one second left in the first quarter, to seal the momentum and the lead.
Jeremy Noble began the scoring in the second quarter with a goal assisted by Michael Simon to finally get Denver on the board. Chesapeake responded with a goal by Drew Westervelt 36 seconds later. Chesapeake continued their streak in the second, outscoring the Outlaws 5-0 in the final 8:30 of the quarter. Denver trailed 10-1 after the first half, the fewest goals by the Outlaws in a half since they played at the Washington Bayhawks on July, 18, 2009.
The Outlaws kicked off the second half with a four-goal run in the first 4:29, including a two-point power-play goal from Jeremy Sieverts, assisted by Drew Snider. Each of Denver's goals in the run was assisted. John Grant, Jr. assisted Sieverts' first goal, Noble assisted a goal by Cam Holding and Sieverts assisted Chris Bocklet before Sieverts' second goal. Chesapeake responded with three goals before Michael Bocklet and Snider recorded goals to close out the quarter. The Outlaws outscored the Bayhawks 7-3 in the third quarter to cut their lead to 13-8. But the Outlaws' run was too little, too late.
For the third straight quarter, Denver got on the board first. Chris Bocklet scored a goal from Grant just 1:02 into the final frame. Snider followed up with his second goal, assisted by Bocklet for Bocklet's first assist of the season. Bocklet completed his hat trick, assisted by his brother Michael, with 10:39 remaining in the game, to bring the score within two, 13-11. Chesapeake finished the game the way they began, with a goal from former Outlaw Colin Dunster. Dunster's goal brought the Bayhawks' total to 15. Denver finished the game with a behind-the-back pass from Snider to Chris Bocklet to bring the final score to 15-12.
Next week, five Outlaws will be competing in the MLL All-Star Game.in Houston. Denver will return home to face the Rochester Rattlers, Saturday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. MDT.

Game notes:
- The first quarter marked the ninth time that the 10th time that the Outlaws have failed to score a goal in a quarter. The last time was the fourth quarter vs. Charlotte on June 19, 2013.
- Tonight's first half was just the third time in Outlaws history that Denver scored only one goal in a half. The last time was the first half at the Washington Bayhawks on July 18, 2009.
