Denver Cutthroats Reigning MVP Returns for 2014-15 Season

July 9, 2014 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Denver Cutthroats News Release

Denver - The Denver Cutthroats re-signed forward Garett Bembridge for the upcoming season in October.

Bembridge was the recipient of the Central Hockey League's 2013-14 Most Valuable Player Award and winner of the Joe Burton Scoring Championship. He notched 42 goals and 62 assists for 104 total points in 66 games and led the league in goals scored and shots on goal (348) during the regular season. The forward was one of two Cutthroats players named to the All-CHL Team during the 2013-14 season.

"Having Garett back with the Cutthroats for the 2014-15 season brings many positives for the organization," said Denver Cutthroats Head Coach Brad Smyth. "With his strong shot and his ability to find the open man, he is an offensive threat on a nightly basis for us. His leadership with the younger players and within the community is invaluable. Cutthroats fans will be excited to see Bember patrolling the right side when the team hits the ice at the Coliseum in October."

Drafted by the New York Rangers in 1999 and again by the Calgary Flames in 2001, the Melfort, Saskatchewan native played 261 games in the American Hockey League with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Saint John Flames, Lowell Lock Monsters, Syracuse Crunch, Portland Pirates and Iowa Chops. During the 2000-01 season, Bembridge suited up for the Wolf Pack with Smyth and Denver Cutthroats President and General Manager Derek Armstrong. In 221 games with the ECHL, Bembridge tallied 95 goals and 107 assists with 228 penalty minutes.

"I am extremely excited to come back for my second season in Denver," said Bembridge. "The Cutthroats are nothing but a first class organization around the rink and in the community, starting with John Hayes and Brad Smyth. It was hard losing in the finals, but I can't wait to get back there and hopefully bring a title to Denver."

The Denver Cutthroats will hit the ice for their third season in October of 2014 at the Denver Coliseum. Season tickets and mini-plans are available at DenverCutthroats.com.
