Dempsey's Old Team Blasts Sounders FC 5-0

SEATTLE, Wash. - Seattle Sounders FC (7-3-1, 22 points) fell to the New England Revolution (5-3-2, 17 points), 5-0, on Sunday evening at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.

Seattle remains in first in the race for the Supporters' Shield. The loss ended Seattle's five-game winning streak and marked the club's first road loss this season.

New England began the scoring in the 14 th minute on a follow-up goal by Patrick Mullins. Stefan Frei blocked a close range shot from Teal Bunbury, but Mullins knocked in the rebound.

In the 29th minute, New England made it 2-0 when Diego Fagundez fired near post from a pass by Chris Tierney.

New England extended its lead to 3-0 in the 36th minute with a goal by Bunbury. Frei stopped Bunbury's initial strike, but he scored on the follow up with a shot from close range.

Fagundez scored his second goal of the match in the 41st minute to make the score 4-0. On a counterattack, Fagundez received a long pass from Bunbury and placed his shot inside the far post.

In the 46 th minute, Seattle conceded an own goal when Bunbury's pass deflected off Chad Marshall's chest into the net.

Seattle had 17 attempts on goal, including six on target, while New England had 14 attempts (9 on goal).

It was Clint Dempsey's first game at Gillette Stadium since he played for New England from 2004-2006.

Sounders FC hosts the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday at 7 p.m. PT on the Xbox Pitch at CenturyLink Field.
