Delgado's Two-Run Single Lifts M-Braves over Montgomery in 10-9 Comeback Win

MONTGOMERY, AL - The M-Braves blew a 6-1 lead, trailed 9-7 heading into the ninth and went down to their final strike twice. None of it mattered.

Riley Delgado snuck a grounder past the infield and into center field to score two runs and ultimately lift the Mississippi Braves over the Montgomery Biscuits 10-9 on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

The M-Braves (7-13) scored three runs in the ninth, securing their first back-to-back wins. The M-Braves lead the series 3-2 and, the club has a chance to take its first series of the season with a win tomorrow over the Biscuits (9-10).

Delgado went 3-for-5 with two RBI and is now batting .357 with a home run and seven RBI. Delgado hit his first Double-A home run on Friday night.

Luke Waddell finished 5-for-5, all base hits, with two RBI and a stolen base. Atlanta's 2021 fifth round pick is hitting .284 with 13 RBI.

Michael Harris II extended his league leading on-base streak to 20 games, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Atlanta's top prospect is hitting an impressive .333 with two home runs, 18 RBI and nine stolen bases.

Four straight hits scored four runs for the M-Braves in the second. After Jacob Pearson walked, Delgado singled. Andrew Moritz went the other way and dumped a double into the left field corner to score Pearson. Harris II doubled to right and scored Moritz to give the M-Braves a 4-0 lead.

The RBI double was Moritz's first hit in Double-A. Atlanta promoted the outfielder from High-A Rome on Friday. Atlanta drafted Moritz out of UNC Greensboro in the sixth round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft.

Yariel Gonzalez hammered a two-run double to the wall in right in the fourth to extend the lead to 6-1. Gonzalez continued a great series where he holds two homers, three doubles and six RBI in five games.

The M-Braves led 6-1 through 3 ½ innings. Then, the Biscuits scored seven unanswered runs, including five in the fifth, to take an 8-6 lead.

Down 9-7 in the ninth, Waddell led off the inning by beating out a throw from third baseman Curtis Mead for his fifth hit of the game. After back-to-back strikeouts, LHP Jose Lopez walked three straight batters. The third walk of Logan Brown scored Waddell to make it 9-8.

The Biscuits then made a pitching change. RHP Sean Huntley entered the game to face Delgado.

Delgado delivered a two-run single, and RHP Justin Maese retired all three Biscuit batters in the ninth for his third save.

The final game of the series is on Sunday at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP AJ Puckett (0-2, 5.68) makes the start for Mississippi against RHP Evan McKendry (0-0, 0.00) for Montgomery.
