Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - It was déjàvu night at Roger Dean Stadium as the Hammerheads fell to Bradenton 1-0 for the second straight night and for the second time this season Scott Lyman lost a 1-0 ballgame against Orlando Castro.
The Hammerheads scoreless streak stretched to 29 innings thanks to the shutout although Jupiter showed signs of breaking out of the offensive slump. The Sharks scattered five hits and hit multiple line drives but unfortunately most of them were right into the gloves of Bradenton players.
In the seventh inning Blake Barber led off with a double and advanced to second on a bunt. Noah Perio would then hit a screaming liner that was caught by a leaping Eric Wood at third base. Ryan Rieger would ground out to end that threat.
In the ninth Jupiter again put good wood on the ball. With one out Viosergy Rosa hit a ball on the screws that was caught by the first baseman Jose Osuna. Barber would then hit a deep fly ball to center in which Jeff Roy had to crash into the wall to make the catch to end the game.
Jupiter can only hope that eventually these kinds of hits will find grass instead of leather.
The game was eerily similar to the Hammerheads 1-0 loss against Bradenton on April 12th. That game was also played at Roger Dean Stadium and the Sharks had five hits in that one. And just like that contest Castro picked up the win after he tossed six shutout innings with four strikeouts and no walks.
Unlike the April 12th game, the only run Lyman allowed on Friday was unearned.
In the sixth inning Adam Frazier hit a leadoff single to right-center and Max Moroff tried to bunt him over. Lyman fielded the ball but his throw was in the dirt allowing Moroff to reach at first. Josh Bell would then reach on a bunt single down the first base line to load the bases.
After Lyman struck out Osuna, Jordan Steranka hit a grounder down the first base line in which Rosa made a diving stop and flipped to Lyman for the out, but Frazier came home with the run that would end up being the difference in the game.
It turned out to be the third time this season Lyman has lost a 1-0 game.
The Hammerheads will try to get on the board and break the seven game losing streak in the series finale against Bradenton on Saturday. It will be Kids Fest at the Dean with activities for kids all day starting at 2:00 p.m. Admission for adults is free while kids cost $6.50. Proceeds from the event will benefit Loggerhead Marinelife Center.
