Mets and Stone Crabs Cancelled, Fort Myers Wins First Half
June 20, 2014 - Florida State League (FSL1)
St. Lucie Mets News Release
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (June 18, 2013) - The St. Lucie Mets final game of the Florida State League first half against the Charlotte Stone Crabs was cancelled on Wednesday due to unplayable field conditions.
The loss of the game did not have a bearing on the race for first place in the FSL South Division. The Fort Myers Miracle defeated Bradenton 5-0 later on Wednesday to finish a full game ahead of the Mets in the standings. The Miracle clinched the first half South title and earned a spot in the postseason in September.
Had the Miracle had lost to Bradenton, the Mets would have won the South because the two teams would have finished with the same record and the Mets won the head-to-head matchup 5-1.
All 12 teams in the FSL will reset their records to 0-0 when the second half begins on Thursday.
Fans with tickets to Wednesday's game can exchange those tickets for any other home game this season with the exception of July 4th.
Ironically, the Mets begin a three-game series with Fort Myers at Tradition Field on Thursday. It's Dollar Night with $1 beer and $1 hot dogs. The game is at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
