NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (July 11) - The Texas Brahmas welcomed defenseman Craig Minard to their roster Tuesday afternoon, making him the ninth player for the upcoming 2007-08 season.

Minard, 32, has seven years of professional hockey experience, including six seasons (316 games) in the Central Hockey League (CHL), and has made four trips to the postseason.

Last season, Minard was with the CHL's Lubbock Cotton Kings. He collected 29 points (5 goals, 24 assists) and 91 penalty minutes for the Cotton Kings in 63 games.

Minard's best season came in the 2005-06 campaign with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, where he posted a career-scoring best with 37 points (4 goals, 33 assists). In 2003-04, Minard had outstanding personal playoff statistics, recording 5 goals and 3 assists in 17 games, when he and the Mudbugs lost in the President's Cup Finals.

Before leaving the Mudbugs, Minard left his impression with the franchise by being ranked third on the Bossier-Shreveport all-time scoring list for defenseman with 118 points (19 goals, 99 assists).

Minard has spent time in the British National League (BNL), East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League (RMJHL) and Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He also played five seasons with the University of New Brunswick in the Canadian Interuniversity Athletic Union (CIAU).

In 2000-01 and 2001-2002, Minard played with the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, the National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers.

Minard is excited about coming to the Metroplex and said he has a lot to offer the Texas Brahmas.

"I have seven years of professional hockey experience and I will be bringing my depth and experience to the blue line. I have seen success in the CHL, and so will the Texas Brahmas. We are definitely going to be a championship team-- I will not settle for less," Minard said.

Head Coach Dan Wildfong believes Minard's competitive drive and talent is needed to take the Brahmas to the postseason.

"His passion for the game reflects on and off the ice. To have a player like that is invaluable for an organization. It is players like Minard that win championships," Wildfong said.
