SteelHounds Bring Pittsburgh Native on Board for 2007-2008

YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski announced today that the team has signed defenseman Denis Kirstein (Pronounced KEER-stine) for the 2007-08 season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Kirstein, 24, is a local talent who comes to the Hounds from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania after growing up just outside of Pittsburgh in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

"I'm excited to bring Denis on board this season," said SteelHounds General Manager Joe Gregory about signing the local prospect. Gregory went on to say, "We have consistently had a strong following in Western PA. I'm thrilled at the opportunity to add a product of the area to our family."

The 6-0, 200-pound Kirstein played four years of Division I hockey at Mercyhurst College where in 102 games he had three goals, 20 assists and 104 penalty minutes for the Lakers. Kirstein earned himself an amateur tryout with the Toledo Storm of the ECHL where in eight games he had one goal and four penalty minutes.

"Denis is a very solid stay-at-home defenseman who does all the little things right and is a leader by example," said Kaminski.
