Baltimore Blast News Release
Baltimore, MD â The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today the players selected to receive All-MISL First Team and Second Team honors. Defender Sean Bowers represented the 2003 Champion Baltimore Blast on the All-MISL First Team.
"Once again Sean Bowers deserves this high recognition from the League," said Blast General Manager Kevin Healey. "In addition to his ability as a defender, Sean's leadership skills helped lead the Blast to the MISL Championship."
Bowers, a three-time League Defender of the Year, is a five-time All-League First Team selection. He recorded 47 points and 84 blocks in the regular season and added four points and 14 blocks in the five postseason games leading up to the 2003 MISL Championship. On March 15th, 2003 Bowers scored a goal against the Kansas City Comets to become just the 20th player in League history to surpass the 800-point plateau in his career. With 761 blocks in nine seasons, next season Bowers will become the first player in League history to record 800 points and 800 blocks in his career. Bowers currently ranks fourth all-time in MISL history in blocks.
Bowers, 34, is a nine-year veteran of the MISL/NPSL and a six-time All-Star. Prior to joining the Blast two seasons ago, he spent seven seasons with the Detroit Rockers. The 1992-93 NPSL Rookie of the Year was the Blast's fourth-round pick in the 2001 MISL Dispersal Draft. Bowers served as Head Coach of the Blast this season from November 7th to December 9th before Bobby McAvan took over the coaching position.
The MISL postseason awards were voted on by MISL member teams' management and selected members of the media from each city. The 2003 MISL Rookie of the Year will be announced this afternoon.
The Baltimore Blast defeated the Milwaukee Wave, two-games-to-one to claim the 2003 MISL Championship. After losing Game One, 19-12, in Milwaukee, the Blast defeated the Wave, 15-12, at 1st Mariner Arena in Game Two and again, 13-12, on April 18th at the Bradley Center to win the Championship.
