ORLANDO, Fla. - The Orlando Pride and defender Megan Montefusco have agreed to a new contract through 2024, with an option for 2025, it was announced today.
"Megan has been a wonderful addition to the Pride since the minute she stepped foot in Orlando. Her skills on the field, as well as her leadership in the locker room, have set a great example for our players," VP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Haley Carter said. "She is a hard-working defender who manages our backline with composure and is an even better teammate off the field. We are so excited to be able to keep Megan here in Orlando and see her as a crucial piece to what we are continuing to build."
"Orlando has become my home and I am so proud to continue wearing this crest, to represent this Club and to play for this community," Montefusco said. "I simply love everything about the Pride - what we are building, my teammates and staff around me, and what lies ahead for us in the future - and I could not imagine being anywhere else. I can't wait to continue working each day to bring a deserved championship to this Club and city."
Since joining the Pride, Montefusco has appeared in 36 games across all competitions. She led the Pride in minutes played (1,861) and started all 21 games during the 2022 NWSL regular season, which also led the team. So far this season, Montefusco has appeared in 10 games across all competitions, starting in nine of those contests.
Over her nine-year NWSL career, Montefusco has made 149 appearances across all competitions, on pace to record her 150th when the Pride travel to face the North Carolina Courage on Saturday, June 17.
Montefusco was drafted out of the University of Los Angeles, California with the No. 13 overall pick by the Washington Spirit in the 2015 NWSL Draft. Since then, she has had stints with clubs across the globe, including the Newcastle Jets in Australia, Boston Breakers, Reign FC and the Houston Dash. In 2020, she helped the Dash to the 2020 Challenge Cup title before being acquired by the Pride in the 2022 offseason via trade.
