Defender Mason Grimes to Return to Tulsa this Season
January 13, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
FC Tulsa News Release
Tulsa Roughnecks head coach David Irving has turned defensive with the most recent player announcement for the club. Irving revealed today that Guam International defender Mason Grimes will return to the Roughnecks for the upcoming USL season.
Grimes will be back for his second season with the club. Last year, in Tulsa's inaugural year in USL, the central defender appeared in 10 matches for the Roughnecks and logged over 750 minutes of action. The Tulsa defense recorded shutouts in two of his nine starts.
The 23-year-old defender has become a regular for the Guam National Team and last year started in six of the club's 2018 World Cup Qualifying matches.
Grimes played collegiately at Cal State San Marcos and earned all-conference honors in each of his final two seasons before joining the professional ranks.
"I don't think we have seen the best of Mason," said Irving. "Last year, a lot of his focus was rightfully on the Guam National Team, and that was a great experience for him. This year, he will be with us on a regular basis, and I think that will help his development. We expect Mason to be a key part of our backline."
Season tickets for the Roughnecks 2016 campaign are currently on sale at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office, at TulsaRoughnecksFC.com and by calling (918)744-5901.
