DeCecco Beats Nuts' Bats in 6-1 Loss

Adelanto, CA. - The Nuts offense could manage only one unearned run in their 6-1 loss to the Mavericks on Sunday evening at Heritage Field.

Lefty Scott DeCecco (W, 4-7) tossed seven innings against the Nuts (4-7; 27-54) allowing just the lone, unearned tally in the fourth inning. Will Swanner reached on an error by first baseman Jordy Lara before stealing second. With two outs, Dean Espy roped a RBI single for the Nuts lone run against the Mavs (7-4; 41-40).

Devin Burke (L, 5-5) struggled against the Mavs allowing six runs on nine hits in four innings of work. The right tossed two scoreless frames before allowing two runs in each of the next three innings. Jabari Henry ripped a two-run double in the third. Henry added a RBI single in the fourth in tandem with Patrick Brady's RBI single. Burke was knocked out of the game without recording an out in the fifth when Tyler Marlette crushed a laser-beam, two-run homer.

Alving Mejias, John Keck and Raul Fernandez combined to toss four scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

After an off-day on Monday, the Nuts will open a three-game series against the Giants at John Thurman Field. Lefty Jayson Aquino will start the opener for the Nuts. The Giants will send lefty Matt Lujan to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
