July 29, 2019 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, TX - The Skeeters open up a six-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. on Monday against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Here's what's in store for the six-game series, which runs from July 29-Aug.4.:
Tuesday, July 29 (7:05 p.m.), Debut of Automated Ball-Strike System
In conjunction with the Atlantic League's working partnership with Major League Baseball, the Skeeters are set to debut the automated ball-strike system, using Trackman, for their Tuesday game against Lancaster and for the remainder of the 2019 season. It will be the first-ever professional baseball game in Texas using strictly an automated ball-strike system and the Skeeters will be one of the first 10 teams in professional baseball history to use the system. There will be availabilities for media members to use the technology and get inside access on how the revolutionary system works. For media members looking to set up interviews with Atlantic League umpires, Skeeters front-office personnel or Skeeters players and coaches, as well as testing out the technology, please email Skeeters Media Relations Coordinator Ryan Posner at rposner@sugarlandskeeters.com or call at 281-207-9132
Saturday, Aug. 3 (6:05 p.m.), Deacon Jones Night
The Skeeters will be honoring Special Advisor to the President and longtime Major League player, coach scout and advisor, Deacon Jones. The Skeeters will be retiring Jones' No. 4, which he wore in 1956 when he hit .409 with the Dubuque Packers, a Minor League affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. It will be the first number retired in Skeeters history. The Skeeters will also be giving away Deacon Jones bobbleheads, themed after his 1956 season with Dubuque, courtesy of Windstream. The Skeeters will be wearing special-edition uniforms for the night, containing commonly-used phrases from Jones printed throughout the jersey, and every Skeeter will also be wearing No. 4 for the game. There will be a pre-game ceremony honoring Jones, including a proclamation from Sugar Land Mayor Joe Zimmerman. Former Baltimore Orioles great Don Buford and Jones' former teammate with the White Sox, Jim Hicks, will be in attendance for the ceremony and game. The special-edition game-used jerseys for Deacon Jones Night will be auctioned off throughout the game.
Friday, Aug. 2 (7:05 p.m.), Masked Singer Night, Go Green Night
The Skeeters will be hosting a Go Green Night, courtesy of Constellation Energy. The team will be giving away metal straws to the first 1,000 fans in attendance and eco-friendly cars will get free parking for the game. There will also be a green firework display as part of the Skeeters' Friday Fireworks show. It will also be Masked Singer Night at Constellation Field, courtesy of FOX Broadcasting. Details for the Masked Singer Night are still to be determined.
Kovu The Bat Dog

First pitch on Friday is at 7:05 p.m. and first pitch on Saturday is at 6:05 p.m. Kovu will serve as the Bat Dog for the first few innings of each game and will then return to Sit Means Sit's marketing table on the Constellation Field concourse for pictures and meet-and-greets.
