Indianapolis Indians Manager Dean Treanor Surveys the Field

INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians announced today the return of Dean Treanor as manager for the 2016 season. It will be his sixth campaign leading the Tribe. Also returning on Treanor's staff will be Pitching Coach Stan Kyles and Hitting Coach Butch Wynegar.
In the Indians' 113-year history Treanor is just the fifth skipper to pilot the club through at least five campaigns - the only one with five straight winning seasons. He ranks fourth in wins (405), and owns the best winning percentage among the Tribe's 400-win club (.557). Next season will be Treanor's 29th as a minor league instructor. He owns a lifetime managerial record of 906-872 through 13 seasons (regular season), including finishing first or second in the standings in nine of the last 10 years.
Last season was the start of Kyles' second stint with Indianapolis. He was also the Indians pitching coach in 2004, and last season marked his 25th of overall professional instruction. The Tribe staff posted an International League-best 3.09 ERA in 2015.
Last season was Wynegar's first on the Indianapolis coaching staff, and he helped the offense to the league's third-best team batting average and most stolen bases. The upcoming season will be Wynegar's 22nd of professional instruction.
"It will be great to have Dean Treanor back for his sixth year as our manager in 2016," said Cal Burleson, Indianapolis Indians vice president of baseball and administrative affairs. "Dean's leadership is a big reason behind the fact that the Indianapolis Indians are the only team in the International League to finish over .500 each of the last five seasons."
Indianapolis posted an 83-61 record in 2015, which was tied for the best in the IL. The Indians swept Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, three-games-to-none, in the first round of the playoffs before losing the fifth and deciding game of the league's Governors' Cup championship series against Columbus.
Indianapolis has been the Pittsburgh Pirate's Triple-A affiliate since 2005. The Indians have qualified for the postseason and won at least 80 games in three of the last four years, and is the only IL team to post a winning record in each of the past five years - seven times in 11 seasons since joining with Pittsburgh. On October 27, the Indians and Pirates announced a joint four-year player development contract extension that runs through the 2020 season.
