De La Cruz Quiets Wings; Edinburg Wins Series

HARLINGEN, Texas- The Edinburg RoadRunners (29-30) defeated the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (29-29) 9-3 and taking the series three games to one Wednesday night at Harlingen field.

Edinburg got on the board first with Dan Coury and Agustin Septimo scorning on a bunt single from Tim Battle. Giving the Roadrunners an early 2-0 lead.

Battle later scored on a RBI single from Fernando De los Santos making it 3-0.

In the top of the third inning Edinburg continued their offensive showcase, Trevor Whyte scored Coury on a RBI triple making it 4-0 Edinburg. Coury later scored on a passed ball adding to the lead 5-0 Edinburg.

Edinburg tacked on two more runs off the bat of Michael Haynes scoring both Septimo and Battle making it 7-0 Edinburg.

In the bottom of the third inning Roberto Ramirez scored the first run for the Wings on a RBI single from Goose Kallunki cutting the lead to 7-1.

Troy Zawadzki later scored on a passed ball for the second run of the game.

Edinburg would score two more runs to pull away from the Wings with Haynes scoring on a RBI single from former WhiteWing Jordan Eiter.

Eiter later scored on a RBI single from Trevor Whyte, as Edinburg took the series three games to one versus the Wings.

Maximo De la Cruz (5-1) got the win tossing six innings while scattering three hits on two runs,

Brett Miller (1-1) was charged with the loss giving up 12 hits and nine runs through five and two thirds of work.

The Win brings Edinburg a game under the .500 mark with the race for the post season gets under way with the Wings and Roadrunners scheduled for eight more games, four in Edinburg and four in Harlingen.

The Wings welcome in the first place Fort Worth Cats for a four game set starting Thursday at Harlingen field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
